At Lavender Corner, we are dedicated to providing quality counseling that is inclusive of all individuals and their relationships.  Lavender Corner was designed especially for the LGBT community.  The therapists at Lavender Corner are graduate students at CSU in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program and are dedicated to empowering families, couples, and individuals to strengthen their relationships, resolve troubling issues, and achieve personal well being.  We serve students and community members and therapists work with families, couples, individuals, adolescents, and children. Counseling is available for a wide variety of issues, including: life transitions, coming-out, extended family relationships, grief and loss, parenting children and adolescents, divorce, remarriage and building step-families, stress management, and couple and relationship enhancement.

The CSU MFT Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, 1133 15th Street, NW, Ste. 300, Washington, DC, 20005, (202) 452-0109.

Jennifer Koenig is the Lavender Corner therapist. She seeks to provide therapy services to the LGBT community and allies in a safe, comfortable, and confidential environment. Jennifer also seeks to understand the unique context in which the LGBT community lives and grows in Northern Colorado through participating in events, reading literature pertinent to LGBT issues, and maintaining an open atmosphere for change.

Therapy sessions take place at the Lambda Community Center. Sessions last about 50 minutes and appointments are generally every week. The therapeutic process is client-centered. This means that therapy sessions focus on goals set by the clients themselves in ways that allow for positive growth.

Jennifer understands that entering therapy can be an intimidating process and she will strive to make this process as smooth as possible.  The highest priority of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at CSU is incorporating diversity into all aspects of training.  This program has been nationally recognized for its diversity training and infuses an awareness of LGBT needs into every aspects of the training process.  The Lavender Corner therapist is supervised by Marriage and Family Therapists that are aware of the unique context of LGBT clients.  Strict confidentiality is maintained within this small circle of confidentiality by strong laws to protect clients that choose to enter the therapeutic process.

The program focuses on philosophy of intimate partnerships, decision-making, the influence of gender socialization, balancing work and family, finances, division of household labor, conflict resolution, and much more.
